It all Starts with You and I…
“Eyin omo wobe, wobe, eyin omo wobe, wobe, mo gbo information, mation, ninu tele” My phone rang earnestly.
Who’s this bayi, ehn? I picked the call…
‘Hello, Mayowa, where are you? It’s Maloaen’….in my mind am like ehnehn? Se o yowo ni abi o fe gbowo fun mi ni? Cause this girl na confam alabosi
“Am at the faculty o” I said
“Have you filled the bio data form” she said… “Which kine question this one dey ask. Something I’ve done since” I said to myself
“Yes nau…since”
“No o, not that one, we were told to fill another at CBN, I just did mine on tuesday, and the crowd there was mad, as in? before I could do mine, I had to wait like forever but I just said I should ask if you had done yours because it’s ending tomorrow”
See this babe o… why didn’t she call me when she was going, or when she found out, she’s now calling me after she has done hers, and the thing is ending tomorrow chai, alabosi lomo yi sha… *smh*
“Oh! Ok. I did not know about that. Thanks for telling me but you should have called me when you found out, it’s almost too late now, Ttyl…bye” I said, fuming from my ears, nose and mouth sef.
UI and their wahala gan sef…we have several tests to prepare for but they are still telling us to go and be filling one form like that, haba, God, why? How many times? How much more of this do we have to do and bear….News like this should be accurately announced ‘nau’, so that others won’t be left out, or complain that they heard the news late… UI needs to work more on their communication with students.
Immediately, I left for the place after reaching my other friends, on getting to the place with one of my friends… I just stood there startled… Ha! Ooto lomo yi so… as in? The crowd was really mad as most people found out about it late, some even just heard about it that day… Lobatan! abi?
I joined the really mad line, under the scorching sun. It was as if the line wasn’t moving at all…people were going in 10-10 after collecting tallies that indicated their number…While I was complaining about the sun, I just saw 4 girls that were walking at our backs when we were on our way to the place, pass with tallies…
“Yeeee!!”:Gbaju e things on point… U see this is where corruption starts from, we will be complaining about our leaders doing 419 to us but here we are doing 4110….When me am still here sun drying and getting burnt, you are enjoying inside the office with the AC on, while you’re filling the form after doing konakona… Don’t worry o.. kontunu!
But you people already know your girl naa… the leader of ‘no dulling group of girls club’ I stylisly walked to the front, although the walk was as if I was going from the faculty to Tedder hall, “There must be at least one person I know, or someone that will act like a gentle man” I said. As I got there I saw so many girls hustling for space at the front, boys were letting fine girls go before them…”na wa o” while I was still waiting to see someone I know, one girl, with geek glasses, just came forward angrily and said “what you guys are doing is not good, it’s very unfair, we’ve been standing here for so long, do we look like we also don’t have work to do?, just remember that there is God in everything we do” One guy just replied saying “Abeg forget about that one, to get what you want when you want it you’ve got to be smart even if that means cheating so to say” the girl just stood shaking her head and I said “Don’t worry you’ll get to understand that life doesn’t work that way, what goes around comes back around, been smart doesn’t necessary mean what you get is gotten at the best time, but been wise, makes you know that been patient gets you what you want and even at the right time”
Kiakia….I went back to my place, make this girl no start to face me…while waiting, I started to think about what the girl said, everything she said was true o…hmmm #real talk #deep thoughts
Truly the line started moving so fast, before I knew it was my turn, I was given tag number 6, I entered, filled the form, it didn’t even take me up to 5mins before I was done. I was proud to have done the right thing. Am a good citizen ya’ll!
On my way back, a car just parked beside me, I thought maybe it was just one of these big boys that are looking for “Fresh blood” I already prepared my mind to be rude if needed, but to my surprise, it was my best friend’s mum, I was seeing her after a long time, let’s say 2-3years, they had relocated to Australia, I was so happy to see her, we talked and gisted on our way to my house” she said she had been around for a month but she couldn’t reach us cause her phone was stolen after her first week in Ibadan, she was so glad to reconnect with us, she brought so many stuffs for myself and my sister, she said she had been thinking that if she wasn’t able to see us before leaving that weekend, she’ll give the stuffs to her cousins
Phew! That was close, I would have missed owning all these great stuffs and reconnecting with these great friends of ours…..Ping! Wait o….If I had used gbaju e things to get a tag number, I would have filled the form early, left there early, but then I wouldn’t have got to see Kunmi’s Mum, then reconnecting would have taken a longer period…
Wow!!! There’s a perfect sense to what the girl from the other time said o. #real talk-You see. As individuals, we’ve been involved in one shady thing or the other, they’ll give simple instructions like, “please line up according to how you got here” but since you have two heads, u jump the queue, or you tell a friend to keep space for you, because those that have been standing are dummies abi?, “It doesn’t matter, others are doing it, why can’t I also do the same” is what we then say to justify ourselves, but the truth is that we might have at one point or the other missed things that we’ve been hoping for. For example, because I was patient, I killed two birds with a stone, but if I had jumped the queue it would have been one stone, one bird, and I’ll be rejoicing, dancing shakiti bobo, thinking that was smart of me, not knowing that I was going to miss something much more important. Everything in life is systematic. In everything we do, no matter how insignificant it might seem, let’s us follow the right steps to achieving that which we seek because who knows? You might be killing 4 birds with a stone. And please stop talking about our leaders that are corrupt, let us talk to ourselves first, you don’t have to steal Nigeria’s money before you are involved in corruption, those little things we do, though it may seem insignificant, might just be as bad as stealing. Withholding information and announcing it to your so-called friends when it’s almost late is corruption, I say. We are the future of our country; we have to make things right starting from us
Now change don come! Stand up for that positive change! Stand up for a better future! Stand up for a better Nigeria! Who says Nigeria can’t be better and free from corrupt manners that has become the order of the day! For that change to be fully manifested, it starts with you, it starts with me, cause WE ARE NIGERIA!! I want to be a better future for Nigeria! I don’t know about you.
Peace Out… No basket for rotten mangoes.
