The University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council has issued a comprehensive Report on the Disciplinary Proceedings of the Assault case and circumvention of due process by the Executive Council.

In the report, it was stated that despite letters sent to all parties involved in these cases, only the Executive Council and Honourable Segun Oladejo (Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Constituency), made any reply. The former sent a letter to the Disciplinary Committee justifying their actions, while the latter acknowledged and responded to the Committee’s invitations.

The charges levelled against the Executive Council were based on their unconstitutional actions around the time of the Congress Dispute earlier this session.

They included, issuance of a memo suspending Congress without due process, disobedience of SRC resolution on Congress notification, and failure to provide a formal report on the State of the Union.

The trio of Hon. Segun Oladejo (Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Constituency), Hon. Shalom (Queen Elizabeth II Hall Constituency), and Miss Nice Linus, were charged with Alleged Physical and Verbal Clash at the Students’ Union Building on May 15th, 2025.

Recall that Miss Nice had earlier written a letter questioning what jurisdiction the SRC had over her since it had disregarded a court order to have her reinstated to her position as a member.

According to the SRC, “In response, the Committee clarified its authority under Article 27 of the Students’ Union Constitution, which covers all union members, elected or otherwise.

A formal letter was sent to her on June 24, 2025, titled “Establishment of Jurisdiction and Directive to Submit Statement of Defence.”

“Furthermore, since Miss Nice failed to show up for either hearing the report resolved that her case would be referred to the University Authorities.”

Following a meeting between the accused parties and the Committee, at which Hon. Shalom and Miss Nice were notably absent, the Committee reached a resolution as follows:

1. The Executive Council was directed to submit a formal apology to the SRC through the Clerk for manifest disregards of the council’s directives.

2. A formal report of the state of the union to be submitted before the next sitting holding on July 5th, 2025.

3. A collective fine of ₦5,000 was imposed.

4. In accordance with Article 27, Section E, Paragraph 4, Hon. Shalom is hereby suspended from the SRC until she appears or responds to the Committee.

However, the report warned that consequent to the continued uncooperativeness of Miss Nice and Miss Shalom, “the Committee acknowledges that the matter *may* be referred to the University Authority.

However, no final decision has yet been made, and if referral becomes necessary, the report will first be presented to the SRC”
