The University of Ibadan’s Central Student Disciplinary Committee (CSDC) has today Monday 14th July, 2025, delivered a verdict suspending two UI students, Aduwo Ayodele and Olamide Gbadegeshin, for four semesters each.
This is a follow-up to the incident concerning the peaceful protest at the 2023/2024 UI’SU inauguration ceremony by three UItes, including the two suspended individuals, against fee hike.
According to the verdict, Gbadegesin Olamide Iyanuoluwa, a 700 level postgraduate African Studies student and Aduwo Ayodele, a 400 level undergraduate History student have been suspended for four semesters, equivalent to two sessions.
In addition to this verdict, they were also advised to refrain from participating in any Students’ Union activities. Following their suspension, they will also be required to attend a counseling session.
Reacting to the verdict, one of the students, Gbadegesin explained that the verdict was unreasonable and unfair. In his words, “The verdict is an unreasonable and unfair judgement, because the system itself is not constituted to deliver any semblance of justice, the system was already predetermined to deliver what it did.”
The incident has sparked debate amongst about student rights and the management predisposition to students’ activism within the school community in light of what is perceived as yet another victimization of students whose only offense have been to say what the management does not like.
