STUDENTS’ UNION HOLDS CARNIVAL TO COMMENCE THE UNION WEEK.
The hall week commenced with carnival on the 26th of November, 2014. Student turnout was massive as they took off at about 1pm in front of the union building to pay his Excellency governor Isiaka Ajimobi a visit. They passed through Bodija market and finally had a halt at the secretariat Ibadan, Oyo state where they were received by the deputy governor Dr. Adeyemo Moses, because the governor wasn’t around. Dr. Adeyemo gave a speech, students danced and the fun continued as the students returned to the institution.
VICE CHANCELLOR HALF MARATHON RACE
This was one of it’s kind as it was organized by the incumbent sports minister in person of Ojutiku Olufemi also known as Phemstrong. The host is our amiable Vice chancellor Prof. I. F. Adewole. The marathon was in two categories, the male and female categories and about 80 students participated in this race. The first 20 students in each category were awarded with certificate of participation and prize money.
For the male category, Akindele Opeyemi a 400l student of the department of sociology also known as S’fela who was the previous sport minister of the Student Union emerged as the winner and was awarded cash price of N10, 000. The runner ups are Adekoya Damilola a 200l student of the department of theatre arts and Usoh James Patrick 200l student of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry.
JAW WAR GRAND FINALE AND ALUMNI GUEST LECTURE
The alumni guest lecture which happens to be the first of its kind and the restoration of jaw war after about 4 years of absence took place at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan on the 21st of November, 2014. The Jaw wars final took place before the guest lecture delivered by the Deputy Governor of Oyo state in person of Dr. Adeyemo Moses who addressed the topic “Revealing The Past And Previewing The Future As A Tool Of Unionism”. The jaw wars was in two categories; Faculty and Halls of residence. The faculty category was between the faculty of technology and the faculty of arts while that of halls of residence was between Tedder hall and Sultan Bello hall.
Faculty of arts was crowned the winner in the faculty category while Tedder hall emerged winner in the Halls of residence category. The best speaker for the oratory competition was Onele Peter Cole by name, a 300l student of the faculty of law and a residence of Tedder hall was given a deep freezer. The vice chancellor was so impressed that he promised the speakers a mini laptop, he also said he’s going to host Teddrites if they emerge as the winner because he was a Tedderite while on campus back then, which he eventually did.
2014/2015 IVORY KING AND QUEEN
The ivory king and queen for the 2014/2015 session took place on 27th of November, 2014 at the International Conference Centre. The programme started quite late and the master of ceremony for the day is popularly called Peteru. Twelve people contested, which included 6males and 6females. The ivory king was finally announced as Mr. Onipede Oluwalonimi, a 200l student of adult education, resident in Independence Hall who was contestant no 5. Miss Yetunde Onikute, a 200l student of the department of Philosophy was crowned Queen. She happens to be the incumbent Miss Idia, she was contestant no.1. The winners were selected after three performances aside the group dance. One very interesting point to note about the Ivory king is that Independence Hall has produced consecutively, the winners for the past three sessions.
