TRCN: Nigerian Government To Attach Strict Conditions To N75,000 Bursary

By Odunayo Ogunseye

Olusegun Ajiboye, the registrar and chief executive officer of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), has made it known that the N75,000 and N50,000 bursaries for students studying education programmes in Nigerian universities and colleges of education respectively, will come with terms and conditions.

This information was passed at the lecture organised to commemorate the Teachers’ Day with the theme “Cultivating Teachers’ Professionalism for Education Excellence”, according to a report by PREMIUM TIMES.

The implementation of these guidelines is being finalized by the national implementation committee and the implementation will commence in 2022.

According to Mr Ajiboye, the bursary is not the only item on the list and everything is being put in place in order to reclaim the lost glory in the education sector of the Nation.

He said: “Of all the items on the list, it is only the implementation of the 65-year-retirement-age that commenced in January, this year. Others are scheduled for implementation next year.”

“Apart from the bursary, we also have a rural housing initiative and allowances for teachers who may be posted to remote locations, teaching practice allowances for both students and lecturers, among others.”

He further stated that Nigerians do not need to get worried about how to sustain the new implementations since the government are putting in place appropriate laws to avoid policy summersault.
