The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has issued a warning to students regarding a series of fraudulent activities targeting members of the student community.
In a memo circulated on 10th June, 2025, in which the students’ union stated that, individuals have been impersonating student entrepreneurs, university staff, and house agents, offering assistance with course clearance, accommodation, and other services in exchange for payment.
The Students’ Union emphasizes that neither the University of Ibadan nor the Students’ Union will solicit money from students for course clearance or payment of fees, adding that, all university processes follow official procedures and therefore students should also endeavour to follow through the verified and appropriate channel.
In the memo, students were advised to verify all claims through official university departments or faculty offices, avoid making payments for unverified services, avoid sharing personal information with unverified individuals, be cautious of urgency tactics used by scammers and report suspected fraudulent activity to the Students’ Union or University Security Unit immediately.
Also, the Students’ Union stated that, it has been in collaboration with the University Security Unit and has apprehended several perpetrators involved in these scams.
Lastly, they urged students to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution, especially online.
