The first round of 16 fixture of the 2025 Seals cup took place on Tuesday 10th June 2025 at the old SUB pitch. The first match of the day between the Departments of Wood Production Engineering and History produced goals and nothing short of good football.
The match kicked off at 3:06pm with WPE donning white tops with black shorts accented by yellow stripes, while History were spotted in their tradition All-blue Jerseys.
WPE started the game with Dominance, pressing high and creating early opportunities. In the 11th minute, a swift counter attack culminated in Akandu slotting the ball past History’s Goalkeeper, Silver to open the scoring.
Just ten minutes later, a defensive error from History allowed Akandu to capitalise again, doubling WPE’s lead with a composed finish.
The second half however featured a more renewed History side. As early as the 2nd minute of the second half, Femi from History found the back of the net narrowing the match and reducing the goal deficit.
Despite several attempts and substitutions including the introduction of Jaiye and Benedict, History could not breach WPE’s defense. WPE goalkeeper, Muhamzy made a last minute save to preserve WPE’s lead.
This result secures WPE’s spot in the next round as they become the first team to qualify for the Quater Finals and thanks to an Akandu brace, the Tech boys have now made the department of History just an history.
