Perfumes

Smell is powerful. Whether you smell of fish or smell like a bouquet of roses, scent is one of the first things people will notice about you. Perfumes [which are usually made from three key ingredients water, alcohol and perfume oil] are automatic oils in alcohol base which like any aerosol is sprayed to cover a large volume area. These molecules if inhaled can cause pulmonary disorders and allergic conditions.

The best place to spray perfume over the human body will definitely be behind the legs, wrists, collar bone behind the ears and ankles. The more you spray yourself down the body, the more the scent will be released this is due to the heat of the body pumping and releasing the lovely scent.

However lovely this makes you feel, be careful what you spray as some fragrances cause harmful side effects. It seems hard to believe that something that smells so good can be so harmful to you and others around you. The sweet smell of your favourite perfume and the soothing scent of your favourite hand lotion can lead to hazardous ailment and diseases.  Think twice the next time you shop for soap, shampoo, fabric softener as well as other household and beauty products.  The danger includes:

  1. ASTHMA: Asthma, a lung disease causes difficulty in breathing.  A person suffering from asthma that comes in to contact with a trigger experiences an asthma attack characterized by shortness of breath, wheezing, the tightening of the chest and skin rashes.  Perfumes and other household and beauty items act as triggers which may lead to a potentially lethal asthma attack.

  1. SYNTHETICS: fragrance [which can translate up to 200 additional ingredients] written on the product list of perfumes and other beauty products can cause dizziness, skin coloration, rashes, coughing and vomiting.  Prolonged exposure can lead to the damage of the central nervous system resulting in depression and other behavioural ailment.

  1. ALLERGIES: A protein particle infested, inhaled, absorbed, or injected that triggers a reaction is known as allergen.  Once an allergic person becomes exposed to an allergen [pollen odour, mould, and synthetically scented household products] the immune system overacts causing sneezing, nasal itching, chest tightness and wheezing

As important as smelling nice is to us so is our health. Getting the right perfume that is not too harsh and at the same time that commands peoples respect is what should be our drive when making our choice. Let us smell nice and at the same time stay healthy.
