The reasons for the increment in technology, sport and health fees have been explained when the students leaders met with the university management to air their grievances.
The Director of Medical Services explained that the increment is the health fees is in compliance withe the Federal Governments’ directives. She said, “the amount requested by Federal Government was two thousand Naira (2000), the one thousand six hundred (1600) was an error which students has been paying before now”
The Sports Director also said fees increment for sports is to organise sporting activities for students, adding that the issue of lack of sporting facilities in halls of residence should be referred to Dean of Students Affairs. UCJ-UI learnt that only 50% of sport fee will be paid this session since first semester will be virtual.
Speaking on the increment in technology fee from N6500 to N10000, the Director of ITEMS explained that “the technology has a 5- year plan which includes development as time goes. The increment was necessary due deliverables that the institution would provide to the students. The technology fee covers maintenance of server, automation and some other things that are done to effect proper running of ICT.”
While answering questions on whether the university has plans in place for effective virtual learning, the VC said a message will be passed across to the students. He also said a FAQs section will be set up and that registrations will be conducted online alone.
