ISDS 2020: The path to peace involves respect for human life—UI VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Idowu Olayinka has said the path to peace involves respect for human life in all its many aspects more than anything else.

He made this submission during his welcome address at the 11th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit (ISDS) on Monday, August 17th.

The Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit is an annual conference jointly organised by the University of Ibadan Centre for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Solutions Network-Nigeria (NSDSN) which focuses on the 5 P’s that underlies the SDG philosophy—People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace And Partnership.

This year’s Summit addresses the theme “Peace for Sustainable Development: Perspectives of Means and Ends.”

The VC added that peace and development are necessary in achieving not only the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but the global security as well.

Prof Olayinka further said humanity must play vital roles in ensuring a conflict-free environment which is one the core aims of the SDGs.

“I would like to appeal to all the leaders at the every level from the household to the global settings to enhance the path of peace so that the security of the world can be ensured,” he urged.
