“I have had numerous occasions to explain to whoever cares to listen that I am not interested in who becomes the Provost, Dean, Director or Head of Department, except that of the Department of Geology where I have a say”, VC said.
He disclosed this statement in his remark at the invocation ceremony of the twelfth and first female Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan COMUI.
In addition to his statement, the Vice-Chancellor said, ” …there are enough rules and guidelines input, books to take care of the process of appointing a new helmsman. Anything to the contrary would be arbitrary and inadvertently make the Vice-Chancellor a monster by hand-picking colleagues which is not a sustainable model in our very liberal environment”.
He also shared his optimism in her passion for excellence and hard work that would be of immense help to her in the POST COVID-19 era characterised by dwindling funds.
He congratulated her and wished her a successful tenure.
