NANS JCC Lagos Stands in Solidarity with “UI 3”, Calls for Their Reinstatement Ahead of Court Hearing

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Lagos State, has issued a statement expressing solidarity with three University of Ibadan students currently involved in an ongoing legal case against the institution, while also calling for their reinstatement.

In a press release dated April 13, 2026, the group identified the victimized students as Mide Gbadegesin (700-level, Institute of African Studies), Aduwo Ayodele (400-level, History) and Nice Linus (300-level, Faculty of Law, who are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for the final hearing of their case, which challenges the university’s disciplinary actions.

According to the statement, Mide Gbadegesin and Aduwo Ayodele were rusticated for four semesters in 2024 following their participation in a protest during a student union swearing-in ceremony, where placards were displayed expressing opposition to fee increases.

The group further alleged that the disciplinary actions followed what it described as a period of intimidation and proceedings before a disciplinary panel it considered biased.

“Their punishment followed months of intimidation, harassment, and appearances before a biased disciplinary panel designed to criminalise the simple act of speaking against rising fees”, read the statement.

It also noted that Nice Linus, who was involved in the same protest, faced additional consequences, including removal from her position as a legislator in the University of Ibadan Student Representative Council.

NANS JCC Lagos State called on the management of the University of Ibadan to reinstate the affected students, describing the action as necessary in the interest of fairness.

The association reaffirmed its support for the students ahead of the court hearing.

‎”We call for their immediate and unconditional reinstatement by the Management of the University of Ibadan. ‎‎The “UI 3″ should be rest assured that they are not alone in this battle as we stand in solidarity with them in the battle for their reinstatement”, the statement concluded.
