The political atmosphere within the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, took a dramatic turn on Friday, May 15th 2026, as the Faculty House of Representatives (FHR) of the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students’ Association (FATSSSA) officially impeached the association’s president, Adegoke Peter, following what the House described as a legislative review and constitutional process.

According to an official notice released by the House, the impeachment decision was reached after due legislative proceedings and a majority resolution by members of the FHR. The House stated that the action was carried out in line with its constitutional responsibility to ensure accountability and preserve institutional governance within the association.

In addition to the impeachment of the president, four other executive members were handed a two-week suspension with immediate effect. Those affected include the Vice President, Financial Secretary, Social Director, and Sports Director. The suspension covers all official duties, responsibilities and privileges attached to their offices during the stipulated period.

While specific details surrounding the impeachment and suspensions were not disclosed in the notice, the House emphasized that its decisions were reached through due process and democratic procedure and the statement was jointly signed by the Speaker of the Faculty House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Oduola Peter, and the Clerk of the House, Hon. Ogungbe Oluwaferanmi.

Preliminary findings by UCJ revealed that the president’s impeachment revolves around accusations of unruly conduct towards the house, restricting the use of the secretariat, refusal to pay a fine initially charged to him by the house and walking out on the house during plenary all of which show the president as not having regard for the rule of law.
