On the night of Tuesday, June 16th, 2026, the university community was rocked by rumours of an alleged kidnapping of 8 UI students who went for a fellowship national conference and the so called abscounding of the fellowship president in order to escape the police.
Given the nature of the incident, the UCJ from last night through today, did due diligence to speak to various authorities and sources on the issue in order to ascertain the facts and dispel some misleading rumours which are being circulated in the students’ community.

What we can confirm
The single student confirmed to be missing is a 300-level law student at the University of Ibadan, Tomisin, who has reportedly been kidnapped while returning from a Scripture Union Student Fellowship National Conference.
Tomisin is the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and the Vice President of the Scripture Union, University of Ibadan chapter. She was travelling in a convoy of about eight people that included the Fellowship’s National General Director, Eng. Uwem Cosmos, when contact with the group was lost on Sunday, 14 June 2026.
The group was returning from the Scripture Union Students’ Fellowship National conference, held at the SU Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State, from June 11 to 14, 2026. The conference ended on Sunday morning and contact with the General Director’s convoy was lost during the trip. Information that contact was lost around Uli, Anambra state could not be adequately verified.
Tomisin’s absence was confirmed when she failed to appear for her faculty examinations on Monday and Tuesday, and she has so far missed two papers. It is confirmed that two members of the University of Ibadan SU Fellowship chapter attended the conference, but only one returned. The student who returned, a student of the Department of Music, did not travel in the affected car. Of all vehicles which was said to have left the venue, only the vehicle of the GD was unaccounted.
From Fellowship
An anonymous member of the fellowship stated to UCJ’UI that search efforts began on Sunday night, after contact was lost. And by Monday, the national headquarters had dispatched a search party, and security officers had joined the search.
When contacted, the National headquarters deflected the questions asked by UCJ’UI. However, the University of Ibadan Scripture Union campus fellowship president, Mr Olabisi Mayowa, confirmed the kidnapping and the number and names of those involve. Mayowa further clarified that Tomisin travelled in “the position of the national secretary, and she went there in the convoy of the general director of the scripture union”.
Mayowa said that the Headquarters had reached out on Monday to the school management in a letter addressed through the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. J. Akintayo, and that the Vice Chancellor had been informed through that letter about the incident.
While it was confirmed by the Dean of Students that initial efforts to reach the fellowship president yesterday proved abortive, the claims that the president had blocked the Dean of Students number and had absconded in order to avoid the police, could not be substantiate. The president himself was seen by UCJ when he came to the Dean’s office around the time UCJ members were at the Dean’s office on a fact-finding mission as the person involved is a member of the UCJ.

From Dean of Students and SU
The Dean of Student Affairs confirmed to the UCJ that the university management is aware of the case. He said he was informed on Tuesday by the Law Students’ Society president, Adebodun Ajakaiye, and that the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and the university’s security unit had been notified. “The school management was also not informed about the travel for the conference, an act that should have been a prerequisite for any travelling to be done for every member of an association travelling from within the school community”, he said.
He mentioned that on their part, efforts are being made to get a full picture of the situation and to see how the affected student can be brought back as soon as possible and urged for calm amongst students.
The Student Union President, when contacted, claimed that he got informed about the issue last night and that he had reached out to the various quarters to get a sense of what actually happened and that in particular, he spoke to the AUCSF president, who gave him some info on the grounds of “allegedly” as the situation remains vague. He mentioned to the UCJ, that the SU was working on putting out a clarification based on what information they had so far.
Situation now
At the moment, all those the UCJ spoke to urge the University community as a whole to remain calm as concrete efforts are already being made on the issue. It is also important at this time, given the sensitive nature of the issue, that students avoid spreading rumours and unverified information, as they do nothing to help the situation.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details are confirmed.

I pray she comes back safely
