FACT-CHECK: No, Kidnapped Student has yet regained freedom

On Friday, 19th of June 2026, a screenshot emerged on some University of Ibadan community WhatsApp groups claiming that the missing Scripture Union Campus Fellowship officials, including the kidnapped law student, had regained their freedom.

In order to verify the claim the UCJ reached out to the President of her fellowship to ask him about the current situation of this.

In a WhatsApp message to a UCJ correspondent, he confirmed that he had seen the circulating news but that it was quite unfortunately not true. He further reiterates that all hands remain on deck and that security operatives are still working to ensure their safe return but that the rumours currently trending is misleading and flat out false.

His position aligns with an earlier UI’SU update, which stressed that security agencies already know about the issue and that the national body is still working to secure the return of all affected individuals.

Furthermore, on enquiry, the national body has not released any new information as touching on the release of any of the affected persons.

Summary Verdict:
False. The affected individuals are yet to reclaim their freedom.
