According to the Chapter 6, Article 14, Section 9 of the NUESA constitution, “All elected and nominated officers of the association shall be exempted from payment of dues at the faculty and departmental level and also entitled to free dinner ticket at both faculty and department.”

Reacting to the provision, students of the Faculty of Education spoke in one voice against the priviledges to be enjoyed by selected members of the Association, regarding it unjust and uncalled for, “nobody forced you to join..” said an educator.

Another educator who spoke during the congress asked members of the various students’ representatuve bodies at the faculty to explain the reason they should be exempted from paying dues as she claimed the service is meant to be selfless and not for having free receipts and dinner tickets.

After much deliberations, it was agreed by the congress, which serves as the highest decision making body, that every student, no matter the portfolio, must pay their dues at both department and faculty levels.

In response to this, the Speaker of the Faculty of Education Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Onifade Bello, who spoke on behalf of the FLC said “I will pay my dues at both department and faculty level. I will ensure that all members of the faculty legislative council pay their dues.”

The President of NUESA, UI, Mr. Kazeem Abiodun added that “All members of the NUESA executive council are going to pay their dues.”
