UI’SU Warns Students Against Fraudulent Fee Payment Messages

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has alerted students to a fraudulent message currently circulating, which requests payment of school fees through unauthorised bank accounts and transfer details.

In a public notice issued by the Union President, T.S. Adeboye and circulated on WhatsApp, students were strongly advised to disregard any message, email, or directive requesting payment into personal or unfamiliar bank accounts, including those purporting to represent official university payment channels outside the approved student portal.

The notice emphasised that all official school fee payments must be made strictly through the University-approved payment systems available on the official student portal, warning that the institution does not request payments via unofficial emails or random bank accounts.

Students were further cautioned against clicking suspicious links or making transfers to unverified accounts, with a reminder that any such messages should be ignored and not circulated further. Instead, students are encouraged to report suspicious communications to the appropriate university authorities.

“Please remain vigilant and help inform others to avoid falling victim,” the statement read.

The alert follows concerns raised over a circulating email allegedly instructing students, particularly freshers in the Microbiology 2025/2026 cohort to make payments via specific bank transfer details and Remita instructions, which have now been flagged as fraudulent.

Speaking to the Deboye about the message, he said, “Yes, it did originate from me.
And the further information is for students to always refrain from falling into false information or traps as they can always confirm information from faculty reps and even HOD before paying or doing anything”

Students have been urged to exercise caution and rely solely on verified university communication channels for all financial transactions.
