UI inaugurates reconstituted Anti-Corruption and Transparency unit

The University of Ibadan has reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and accountability with the inauguration of a reconstituted Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

The Vice-Chancellor, Kayode Adebowale, pledged during the inauguration ceremony, stating that the institution would continue to demonstrate that academic excellence is best sustained in an environment grounded in ethical standards. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which presided over the proceedings.

Professor Adebowale described the University of Ibadan as a leading institution with a longstanding reputation for excellence, innovation, and moral leadership. He noted that the reconstitution of ACTU represents a renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible institutional governance. He explained that the unit is expected to adopt proactive measures in addressing corrupt practices, including regular audits, whistleblower support systems, public reporting mechanisms, and capacity-building initiatives for both staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured that the university would continue to work closely with the ICPC to align its internal processes with national anti-corruption strategies.

In his remarks, he urged committee members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, fairness, and integrity, while encouraging students and staff to support the unit’s mandate.

A goodwill message was delivered on behalf of the ICPC Resident Commissioner in Oyo State, Mr Chile Ogwegbu, highlighting the role of academic institutions in promoting ethical values and good governance. The message was presented by Mr Tope Eegunjobi, an Assistant Chief Superintendent of the Commission. The Commission noted that ACTU serves as an internal mechanism established across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to promote ethical compliance, identify corruption risks, and strengthen accountability systems within public institutions.

It further emphasised the importance of the unit in building institutional resilience and urged members to approach their responsibilities with dedication and a strong sense of duty.

As part of the inauguration activities, an overview of ACTU operations was presented by Mr Oscar Ndukwe of the ICPC, while the oath of office was administered to the newly appointed members.
The reconstituted unit comprises representatives from various faculties and administrative divisions within the university, reflecting a broad-based approach to institutional oversight.
