The vice president editorial (editor in chief) of UCJUI, Toluwalope Ayeye, and the creative editor of UCJUI, Sakeenah Kareem, have been selected for the 2025 Empower Women In Media Cohort (EWMC).
The program is an initiative of Campus Reporter, one of the projects organised by Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) to empower female campus journalists.
Toluwalope Ayeye, a student of the Faculty of Law and Sakeenah Kareem, a student of the Department of Communication and Language Arts were selected alongside other twenty- four female students across various tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The Intermediate Cohort which they were selected for, is an eight-week session in which the participants will be exposed to female experts-led in journalism and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), hands-on learning and experience in investigative reporting, mentorship from leading female journalists for exceptional participants, and story grants for selected pitches.
Speaking on her selection, Toluwalope said that she was excited about being selected despite the large number of applicants, adding that she would leverage on the program to sharpen her skills in Journalism.
“Being selected amongst about 100 applicants was good news for me. To be part of the cohort is an opportunity for me to get better in journalism by learning from experts in the field,” she stated.
