President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The State House confirmed the appointment in an official digital release issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Professor Aina, a professor at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), will succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who has served as JAMB Registrar since 2016. The appointment will take effect from July 31, 2026.
Prior to his appointment, Aina served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
In these roles, he provided expertise in ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimization to various state ministries of education.
The new registrar is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Speaking on the appointment, President Tinubu said he expects Professor Aina to bring his vast experience and practical insight to the operations of the Board.
The President further charged the new registrar to build on the achievements recorded under his predecessor and take the Board to greater heights.
At the age of 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and will now become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
In an interview he granted shortly after he was made a professor, the new JAMB registrar said, “I think hard work, but I think beyond hard work; I think also smart work. You know, it is not just about working hard; you need to work smart.”
