At the inauguration, in his Inaugural Speech, the newly inaugurated President, Adeboye Temidayo Sewanu, asserted the commitment of the Diligence Team to “serve the students with integrity, accountability and unity of purpose”, affirming that the inauguration didn’t just mark the beginning of promises, but also, the beginning of responsibility, reasserting that the union “approach is inclusive, consultative and solution-driven”.

In addition, he acknowledged and applauded the commitment of the University Management in ensuring that the university continues to function effectively. However, he highlighted key issues that are affecting the student community, which he would like the University Management to address. Such issues include: a postgraduate student who has finished all academic requirements for graduation, but due to the administration structures, hasn’t been cleared; the constant failure of transformers supplying electricity to some hostels; unstable power supply to medical students at the College of Medicine and students’ accommodation.

Additionally, he appealed to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to support the expansion of the University of Ibadan hostels, as well as to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to help students staying off-campus against outrageous fees of accommodation agents and the need for an overhead pedestrian bridge around UI to prevent accidents.

He concluded that his administration will listen before it speaks, ask before it complains, and also be accountable for every one of its actions.
