Rove Beetle Cases: the Management Reacts

As a reaction to the open letter addressed to the Acting Vice Chancellor by the leadership of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan concerning the menace of the Rove Beetle, the University’s Director of Public Communications, Mr Olatunji M. Oladejo in a meeting on Wednesday, 18th November, 2015 addressed the leadership of the Union ably represented by the Editor-in-Chief and the General Secretary, Tope Lanre Bello and Olu’femi Adesope on the position of the University management.

According to Mr Oladejo, the University Health Service(Jaja Clinic) had recorded more than thirty cases of rove beetle inflammation as at Wednesday, 18th November, 2015. Projecting the position of the University’s management, he said that since the semester is almost completed, it would be unwise to close down the University for now as many students were clamouring for. He however believed that public places in the University would be fumigated as soon as the semester is over. He allayed the fears of students as he said the insect is not venomous and so does not kill. In the same vein, he assured the students that medications are now available at Jaja to treat the Rove Beetle cases.
