SU ASPIRANTS BOYCOTT PRESS NIGHT

                                                                                                                           The aspirants’ empty seats

In what appears to be a conspiracy, all the aspirants in the forthcoming election of Students’ Union Government of University of Ibadan did not attend the Union of Campus Journalists’ organised press night held at Trenchard Hall last week Wednesday, 13th May, 2015.
It became obvious that the aspirants would not be showing up when at 5:00pm the seats arranged for them were still vacant. The programme ought to have started at 3:30pm.
The President of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), Miss Kareem Tawakalit later announced to Pressmen present that the press night had been postponed indefinitely due to a letter she just received stating that all the aspirants had agreed to postpone the SU’s election.
The reasons allegedly adduced by the aspirants for agreeing to postpone the election are:
Demands for a reviewed Constitution as regards the electoral committee composition and electoral processes.
Counting of election results at the various halls of residence.
Improved welfarism of students on campus.
The press night is a programme which affords only campus journalists to ask aspirants questions on their manifestos, iron out controversies surrounding a candidate, make clarifications and proffer solutions to an aspirant’s manifesto which is not clear.
