As of 10:06 a.m., protesting students had gathered at the Faculty of Nursing, expressing dissatisfaction over the ongoing situation. The Dean of Students, Prof. Lewis, was present at the scene to address concerns.
By 10:08 a.m., the protest had moved to the Department of Wildlife and Ecotourism Management, where students attempted to halt ongoing lectures. The Dean of Students engaged some Students’ Union executives, stating that the institution had provided electricity through generators for two hours. However, students rejected this measure, insisting it was insufficient and demanding a total suspension of lectures.
At 10:19 a.m., the protesters proceeded to the Department of Agricultural Economics, extending their demonstration to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Students were seen chanting slogans such as “No water, no class; no light, no class” while urging others to join the protest. Some students, however, chose not to participate.
An incident was reported at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine where a female student allegedly slapped a male student. She was subsequently taken away from the scene without immediate public resolution.
The protest train then moved to the Faculty of Pharmacy. At the Pharmacognosy Laboratory, both the lecturer and students initially refused to vacate. Similarly, at the Pharmaceutical Dispensing Laboratory, where a practical test was ongoing, there was initial resistance before students eventually complied and joined the protest. At the faculty’s main building and auditorium, students exited calmly without disruption.
Meanwhile, the Students’ Union President announced an emergency congress scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Students’ Union Building. However, some students expressed reservations, fearing that delaying action might weaken the momentum of the protest.
By 11:50 a.m., students had converged at Trenchard Hall to demand a definitive response from the school management. Addressing the gathering, the Dean of Students assured students that electricity would be restored by night. He added that ongoing negotiations with staff unions, including the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), could lead to an earlier resolution.
By 12:52am, the protest had been moved to Oduduwa road, the main road coming to Trenchard from the Main gate, this culminated in a Student’s congress held earlier than the planned 5:30pm Emergency Congress earlier called by the Union’s admins.
The Chairman of SSANU was spotted at Trenchard when the protest was there assuring students that efforts were underway to resolve the crisis.
The situation remains under close observation as students await concrete action from the university management.
