The Head of Logistics of the Electoral Commission, Kilanko, has attributed complaints of “invalid voter” and “already voted” messages on the E-Voting platform to technical glitches.
Speaking with a UCJ’UI, Kilanko said that while rumours of voters being wrongly marked as having voted had circulated, he had not personally encountered such cases, noting that instances of “invalid voter” were, however, recorded.
“With my own eyes, I have not seen anyone who was marked ‘already voted’, but we have experienced cases of ‘invalid voter’, and that is a technical issue,” he said.
He explained that officials managing the e-voting platform, alongside the Dean of Students, were present to address the challenges and directed affected students to submit their matriculation numbers and halls of residence for verification.
He said, “Anyone who has issues has been asked to send their matric number and hall, and once it is forwarded, it is being rectified.”
According to him, reports forwarded to the commission earlier in the day had been resolved within minutes, allowing affected voters to regain access to the platform and participate in the election.
Kilanko added that students unable to vote online could physically obtain their voting credentials at designated centres, including the Student Affairs Boardroom and Abdus-Salam Postgraduate Hall, depending on their halls of residence.
When asked about a post-election technical report, the Head of Logistics of the Electoral Commission, Kilanko, said: “No independent technical report will be released after the election. We will rely on continuous communication to guide eligible voters.”
The logistics head also urged students to come with valid identity cards, stressing that faculty and hall commissioners were on the ground to attend to complaints and ensure a smooth voting process.
