‎UCJUI Holds 5-in-1 Ceremony, Inducts New Members

‎The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI), has on Saturday, October 11, 2025, held its 5-in-1 ceremony at the First Bank Building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan. 

‎The ceremony featured the second edition of the annual Global Campus Journalism Summit (GCJS), the final stage of the Prof. Francis Egbokhare Inter-Press Debate competition, the Famous Five Awards, the Induction Ceremony for new members, and the launch of the sessional Campulse Magazine.

‎Themed “From Campus to Newsroom: Sustaining Truth, Freedom, and Innovation in the Age of AI”, the Global Campus Journalism Summit began with keynote speeches from Dr Jide Johnson, the Director of Special Programs at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, and Yemi Adelakun, representing Ronke Giwa-Onafuwa, the General Manager of Dominion Broadcast Group.

‎The theme of the summit was further explored in a panel session made up of Mojeed Abiola, Sunday Oguntola, Ifedayo Ogunyemi, and Faith Omoniyi, who are all seasoned editors and communication experts.

‎”While AI can aid the newsroom, it can never take the place of an editor,” Sunday Oguntola said, while highlighting the importance of the human element in journalism during the panel session.

‎In recognition of remarkable work done by individuals in different fields, UCJUI then presented the Famous Five Awards to its selected awardees. Akintude Babatunde was awarded the journalism category; Hon. Seun Fakorede, the politics category; Amb. Taiwo Ailogwehene, the entrepreneurship category; Mr. Dolapo Amusat, the entertainment category; and Prof. Saheed Aderinto, the education category.

‎Also present at the ceremony were the Lagos State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and representatives from other campus journalist associations all over Nigeria.

‎ The Union also launched the 2025 edition of its Campulse Magazine, which is titled “Education That Educates: Raising Thinkers In A System Designed For Survival”. 

‎The magazine amplifies student voices and highlights societal issues through the lens of young journalists,” the Union emphasised during the magazine launch.

‎In the inter-hall debate segment, Zik Hall Press Organisation and Clinical Sciences Press emerged winners of the Prof. Francis Egbokhare Inter-Press Debate competition in the hall and faculty categories, respectively.

‎The 37th Inductees of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI), were also officially sworn in as members of the union, with individuals who performed exceptionally during the induction process being rewarded for their diligence.

‎Oyetoro Joshua, a sports reporter from AFAS Press, received the Most Energetic Inductee Award, and Gloria Nelson, a reporter from UIMSA Press, won the Best Inductee Award with cash prizes of N400,000 and N100,000, respectively.
