In what has easily become the match of the tournament, MBBS finally broke their winless streak against Political Science, defeating them 2-1 in a tense quarter-final clash to book their place in the SEALS Cup semi-finals.
The highly anticipated showdown kicked off at 6:05 PM with both teams showing intent from the onset. For the first few minutes, the game was finely balanced, as Political Science matched MBBS in intensity, possession, and creativity. However, the deadlock was broken in the 9th minute. MBBS winger Ola delivered a moment of brilliance, darting past POS defender Obi before unleashing a fierce shot that beat goalkeeper Olami at the near post, putting MBBS ahead 1-0.
That goal marked a clear momentum shift. From then on, MBBS dominated proceedings while Political Science struggled to reorganize. The pressure paid off again as MBBS doubled their lead through a set-piece situation. A dangerous free-kick delivery caused confusion in the box, and a goalkeeping error from Olami gifted MBBS a simple tap-in to make it 2-0 just before the halftime whistle.
Political Science came into the second half with renewed energy, desperate to claw their way back into the game. However, MBBS had fortified their defence, absorbing pressure and frustrating POS attackers at every turn.
Despite Political Science’s best efforts, they were only able to breach the MBBS backline in the final moments of added time. A chaotic scramble in the box saw “Pogba” of POS stab the ball home for a consolation goal. But it was too little too late.
The final whistle confirmed MBBS’s historic 2-1 win over Political Science, their first ever against them after having met thrice previously. The defending Champions now advance to the semi-finals where they would be taking on Petroleum Engineering in their title defense charge.
