The 36th Administration of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), officially handed over leadership on March 1, 2025 after ten months of dedicated service.
The outgoing administration, led by President Elizabeth Tosanwunmi Tarre, reflected on its tenure, highlighting key achievements and expressing gratitude to supporters.
During their tenure, the administration launched a broadcast journalism unit, growing the union’s YouTube page from zero to 396 subscribers.
The administration also introduced indigenous language news reporting in Yoruba and Hausa, along with sign language translation, making campus journalism more inclusive.
Furthermore, UCJ UI extended its reach beyond campus by running Students’ Chronicles on Yes 101.7 FM.
Strengthening ties with alumni, the team introduced the UCJ UI Alumni Scholarship Scheme to support members’ learning. Internship placements were also facilitated to give students professional exposure.
One of the administration’s landmark achievements was organizing the Global Campus Journalism Summit (GCJS) 1.0, which brought together campus journalism associations from universities across Nigeria.
The administration also increased cash prizes for journalism contests and introduced new award categories to recognize excellence.
“As we bow out, we extend our best wishes to the new administration. Long live UCJ UI!” Tarre stated in the farewell message. .
