NEWS: US University Selects UI Student For Global Fellowship

Adebayo Abdulrahman, the immediate-past Editor-in-Chief of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan has been selected for the 2024 Don Lavoie fellowship by the George Mason University’s Mercatus Center.

According to the institution, Abdulrahman, a final year student of Political Science, was selected for his outstanding academic performance and he will be joining other fellows from all over the globe to contribute to the research and outreach programs of the institution’s Mercatus Center for a year.

“Mercatus Center’s Don Lavoie Fellowship program is a competitive, renewable, and online fellowship program awarded to advanced undergraduates, recent graduates, and early-stage graduate students,” a letter sent to fellows revealed.

It stated further that each fellow will receive a stipend of up to $1,000 and participate in discussions and activities on key ideas in the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy as well as contemporary research in this tradition.

Reacting to his selection, the former Editor-in-Chief expressed gratitude, adding that the fellowship allows him to deepen his knowledge of political economy and public policy research.

“I’m elated by my selection because of the opportunity it represents for me to deepen my understanding of political economy and public policy research. The Don Lavoie fellowship is renowned for being a foremost US fellowship for political economy and I am very grateful to the Mercatus Center at George Mason for finding me worthy,” he said.
