On the second day, the organization’s first call was to Rutham house, home of Guardian newspaper.

Addressing the visiting UCJUI members, Guardian’s Weekend Editor, Mr. Kabir Garba, stated that the organization’s door is always open to young journalists from across the country.

The Editor, who is also an alumnus of the institution, noted that there is an endless list of young people, occupying key positions in the organization today, who joined with the experience they gathered as campus journalists during their undergraduates days.

“At Guardian, we’re very committed to providing opportunities to the next generation of journalists and we have done this through various ways over the years,” he was quoted saying.

UCJUI members, led by Guardian’s News Editor, Temitope Olaiya, another UCJUI alumnus, also visited the production unit of the organization where an extensive session on its operations was held.

Moving on from The Guardian, the organization visited Big Cabal Media, the home of Tech Cabal and Zikoko.

At Big Cabal, UCJUI members were hosted by the News Editor, Mr. Muyiwa. During this visit, members of the UCJUI delegation had an extensive session with the organization’s newsroom, learning how the organization is redefining the reportage of tech stories on the continent.

Meanwhile, the President of the association, Tobi Odeyinka, has lauded the various media organizations that hosted UCJUI members for their relentless commitment to objective and impact-driven journalism.

“It’s impossible to talk about in-depth journalism in Nigeria today without mentioning names like Guardian or The Nation or Tech Cabal. And we are very grateful to them all for keeping their doors open to campus journalists,” the President noted.
