
The Presidents of faculties present at the ongoing UISRC sitting have decried the notion that they accepted the faculty levies being charged by the faculty managements.
While responding to the address made by the Student’s Union President, Samson Tobiloba’Host’, who suggested that the onus concerning payment of the faculty levies is on the faculty presidents, Sakariyau Waris, the president of the faculty of education emphasized the need of the Students’ Union as the mother body of all students to take a more proactive stance.
“So far, we have seen many fees getting increased and the student’s Union has been accepting it, the utility fees was introduced, accommodation fees was increased, also transport fees, and all these stands, so, we should not outrightly expect the faculty presidents to oppose these levies alone, ” he said.
” The Student’s Union should take a clear stance on the issue as a pressure group that it is and we’ll follow, ” Mr. Sakariyau concluded.
Also speaking, Hon. Obapelumi Mercy, the president of the faculty of Renewable Natural Resources also recounts the efforts she has made so far.
The Faculty President noted that the SU President met with the DVC and told them that “the levy imposed is not from the University management, however, when we got to the Faculty, we were told the university management is aware of it, it is really a state of dilemma now, ” she said.
Other faculty presidents who spoke include: Hon. Dafe, faculty of Technology, Hon. Toluwani, faculty of Science, Hon. Shittu, Faculty of Agriculture, and Hon. Fiyin Atinmo, president of the faculty of Dentistry and the president of the Council of Faculty Presidents.
Recall that alongside the slight increment in school fees and accommodation fees, a faculty levies for laboratory/studio ranging from 20,000 naira and 10,000 for fresh students and returning students respectively for students in various faculties.
