TWO WRONGS CAN NEVER MAKE A RIGHT- BARR OLUKAYODE

Barrister Olukayode, the special guest of honour at the Fatimah Olayinka Memorial lecture organised by Agropress organisation, advised Nigerian youth never to use a wrong approach to demand for their rights.

He made this statement while answering questions from the audience. He said the insurgent groups might claim they are fighting for their rights but two wrongs can never make a right.

He further said the youth should do away with religious or ethniccrisis, stay focused on developing their communities and Nigeria at large and take legal steps to seek redress when their rights are infringed upon.

SERVE AS ROLE MODELS FOR OTHERS-PROF. FRANCIS EGBOKHARE ADVISES UCJ, UI

Professor Francis Egbokhare has advised the Union of campus journalists, University of Ibadan to define her roles and responsibilities with clarity so that the UCJ may be replicated in other schools.

He said this while giving his opening address on Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 at the First Bank Auditorium, Faculty of Agric. and forestry, University of Ibadan as The UCJ awarded five Achievers who have made impact in the society.

He and the Chairman of the occasion who is also the Oyo State Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Opadotun Gbenga however commended the union executives for selecting notable people who have done a lot for the society as the awardees. The list includes; Mrs Florence Ajimobi, the first lady of Oyo State; Professor C.O kolawole, the 24th Dean of The Faculty of Education; P.S Olajide, Deputy Managing Director of National Mirror Newspaper; Pat Nebo, Africa’s best Art director and Jimi Tewe, a motivational speaker and CEO of Inspiro consultant.

Speaking at the programme, Professor C.O Kolawole said youths of nowadays have become disorientated; that is, they have allowed ethnic, tribal and religious crisis among themselves and should therefore be re-orientated. He concluded his speech by saying that youths should be given the opportunity to express themselves and should be motivated.

UIMSA HONOURS AWOSIKA WITH A SYMPOSIUM

The University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association honoured Chief Dr OloyedeAwosika, a hero in the field of medicine with a symposium titled; Shifting Paradigm.

At the programme, Dr LadiAwosika, C.E.O Total Health Trust who delivered a lecture on “placing health on the political Agenda in Nigeria”said health is an integral part of the socio-economy of a community and should be taken very seriously.

At the programme which was held at Trenchard hall, University of Ibadan, awards were given to the best students in each level; Miss OmobolanleLawal and Mr AbassAkande jointly received the MBBS part one award while Miss Ijeoma received MBBS part two award and Dr HabibOgundipe received both the MBBS part three and four awards.

UISU REGULATES TRANSPORT FARES

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union transport Committee set up by the SRC has regulated the hiked transport fares within the campus.

On Thursday, 23 October, members of the transport committee announced the new regulations. Students were told that cab “drop” is now N70 instead of the former N100. Motor bikes to Queen Idia and AwoHalls are now N40 and no longer N50.Other prices remain unchanged.

It was also stated that transport fares are not to increase at night or during holidays.

 

 

ZIK HALL WELCOMES FRESHMEN

On Thursday, 23 October, NnmadiAzikiwe hall officially welcomed her freshmen into the hall.

The ceremony which took place in front Zik JCR was chaired by the Hall Warden, Dr Ajewole who challenged the students to contribute meaningfully to the development of the hall.

He told the freshmen to join any organisation within the hall not for the benefit of accommodation but to contribute their quota towards the development of Zik hall.

 

SIGMA, UI HOSTS KING SUNNY ADE

Sigma Club, University of Ibadan hosted the popular JuJu musician, King Sunny Ade during her programme tagged Havana Classic on Friday, 24th October 2014 at John Paul II Hall.

The programme which was strictly by invitation was attended by the executive governor of Oyo state, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, Prof. Tola Atinmo, an old Sigmite, as well as other alunmi.

The indefatigable legend, King Sunny Ade made the night a memorable one with his evergreen musical voice.

UI RELEASES SECOND BATCH ADMISSION LIST

The University of Ibadan on Saturday, 25th October 2014, released her second batch admission list.

It was gathered that prospective students who went on jamb website to check for their admission status have seen their notification of admission but no such information has been released on the University’s website.
