The SIGMA Club, University of Ibadan on Friday, December 3, 2021, held a charity walk to sensitize youths on the dangers of drug abuse.
The walk was part of events lined up to celebrate the club’s 70th anniversary.
Participants for the Walk converged at the university’s Kenneth Mellanby hall, from whence they were conveyed in a bus to Ventura, Samonda where the Walk began back to the university campus.
The walk which took about two hours included both Old SIGMITES and Loyal SIGMITES
An Old SIGMITE, Olapade Abdulrahman, in a chat with UCJ UI disclosed that the walk was intended to raise awareness for the club and its 70th anniversary in the university of Ibadan community.
“It is to mark the 70th anniversary of Sigma and to also call the attention of young people to the need to stay clear of drugs,” he stated.
He included that the walk would also contribute to keeping the participants fit.
When asked about the club’s proposed donations, he mentioned that it would take place at the convention taking place later in the day.
Celebration of the SIGMA Club’s 70th anniversary would carry on through the day and extend to tomorrow when the Obi of Onitsha would be inducted as an Honorary SIGMITE at a luncheon.
Founded at the University of Ibadan in 1950, SIGMA Club is the oldest surviving student organisation in Sub-saharan Africa.
