Renovation Nears Completion at Kenneth Dike Library’s 24-Hour Facility

By Faith Ajewole

After years of relentless service to students, the 24-hour reading facility at the Kenneth Dike Library is finally receiving a much-needed facelift.

For years, the facility has operated at full capacity to accommodate the academic needs of students. However, this constant use has taken a visible toll on the infrastructure.

Concerns have been raised over the deteriorating state of the hall, citing worn-out tables, broken chairs, damaged floor tiles, and torn window netting.

In response to these conditions, the library management has initiated an intensive renovation project over the past few days. The upgrades include:

  • Refurbished Furnishings: dilapidated tables and broken chairs have been removed and replaced with brand-new, ergonomic furniture.
  • Interior Upgrades: the entire facility has been repainted, including the walls and ceilings, to create a brighter and more conducive study environment.
  • Ventilation: wall and ceiling fans have been repaired to improve air circulation within the hall.
  • Structural Repairs: Broken floor tiles have been replaced, and the old protective netting on the railings has been changed.

The renovation is currently in its final stages, with workers focusing on the finishing touches to ensure the space is ready for peak study hours.
In a recent interview, the Student Union President expressed optimism about the project’s impact. He confirmed that the facility is expected to be fully operational by the week following the conclusion of the GES examinations.

Work is currently ongoing to ensure the 24-hour facility is back to full use as soon as possible. The goal is to provide students with a comfortable and functional space to study, especially as we enter the main examination period.
