UI Announces Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-el-Kabir Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

This was disclosed in a special bulletin released by the University of Ibadan on Monday, May 25, 2026, and signed by the Registrar, G. O. Saliu.

According to the notice, workers on essential duties are expected to continue discharging their responsibilities as required, while normal work activities will resume on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The announcement comes as Muslims across Nigeria prepare to commemorate Eid-el-Kabir, one of the most significant celebrations in Islam, marked by prayers, sacrifice, charity, and gatherings with family and loved ones.

For many students and staff members, the two-day holiday also presents an opportunity for rest and reflection amid the demands of the academic and work calendar. On campuses and within communities, preparations for the celebration are already beginning to take shape as people make travel plans, reunite with relatives, and organise festivities.

The University bulletin ended with the traditional goodwill message, “Barka de Sallah,” extending warm wishes to members of the Muslim community observing the celebration.

Work is expected to fully resume across offices and administrative units on Friday following the holiday break.
