The President of the Students Union, University of Ibadan, Aweda Bolaji, has assured students of a call for Congress soon.
He made this declaration in an interview with UCJUI while reacting to the petition received after the failure to call for a Congress for Saturday, July 21, even after the 250 signatories stipulated was met.
Speaking to UCJUI, he maintained that in line with the constitution, following the over 250 signatories submitted that a Congress would hold.
“The constitution is clear that on the wish to call a Congress and that since over 250 people have signed for a Congress, there must be a Congress.
“But before there is a Congress, we have to first verify the signatories they are signed for the Congress, which is why we’ve set up a small committee, that includes a pressman, to verify the signatories,” he said.
He also emphasized the resolutions of the last meeting with the management, following the widespread campus protest that was held to demand better welfare from the school authority, urging the students to stay calm while the union follow-up on these demands, especially on school fees.
““The school fees deadline for August 4, is not sacrosanct. The school fees are currently before the council for review, and after the review of the school fees, the school will then give a new deadline, which will be enough time for people to pay,” he added.
