UISU Elections: Mascot Accuses Kuti Hall Stakeholders Of Electoral Malpractice

Adebayo Abdulrahman

One of the two Presidential aspirants in the ongoing Students’ Union election, Adewole Yinka has accused some stakeholders of Kuti Hall of electoral malpractice.

Speaking with UCJUI, Mascot, as the Presidential aspirant is popularly known, alleged that the stakeholders collected the logbook of the Hall’s residents from the porter, using it as a database to identify students who had been voted for or not.

“If you analysed what happened, you will know what is going on because they were able to pick a logbook from the porters lodge, corresponding that particular one to the list being pasted. They removed the whole list, corresponding to that particular video that this one has been voted for, this one has not been voted for,” he alleged.

Recall that UCJUI had earlier reported that some stakeholders at the Hall were earlier today reportedly caught engaging in a mass voting exercise for certain candidates in the ongoing students’ union elections, an action that contravenes the SU electoral guidelines.

In a video that has been verified by UCJUI, at least six students were seen with three laptops and various documents trying to engage in the mass voting exercise.

A review of the identity of the students in the video revealed that the Kuti hall chair, Olasunkanmi Yusuf, was one of those involved in the exercise, one that clearly violates the electoral act.

Speaking further, Mascot argued that an analysis of the video would give credence to his allegations.

“You can see it in that video. I am not just saying it,” he insisted.

A review of the video conducted by UCJUI reporters indicated that documents held by stakeholders of the Hall in the video contained details of students.

Recall that the Hall chair had earlier told UCJUI that he and his colleagues were only trying to compile the room numbers of some students in the Hall, an explanation that gives credence to the allegation against him and other stakeholders.

He, however, insisted that the allegations were untrue.

The allegations against the Hall’s stakeholders is weightier because the only other aspirant jostling to become the next President of the union, Richard Oladeji is a resident of the Hall.

Multiple attempts to reach Richard for his view regarding the allegation that his Hall stakeholders were voting on students’ behalf to ensure his emergence, proved abortive as he didn’t pick calls placed to him by this reporter.

A message sent to his official line has also not been responded to as of the time of writing this report.
