DIARY OF A SEMI-ZEALOUS AWOITE – 2

Dear diary,

Another week of stressful palaver. It was a test infested one and I had to do late nights at the general reading room I used to dread last session due to its repugnant smell (Maybe I’ll buy air freshner for that place sef).It paid off though, because I was able to do most of the tests with an average sense of confidence.

The impending election for the students’ union executives was heavy in the air this week until the election committee postponed it till further notice for reasons known to them. Anyway, this week I learnt that a position is not only about the title it places resplendently on you but it is really about how well you carry out the duties that come with that position. My roommate, a H.R.C. member displayed a perfect understanding of this during the week as she seized numerous hall IDs and helped to curb the block of its being infamous for dirtiness and a tendency towards being disgusting.

After all the anger I have had in the time past towards the reading room, the night before my test I went in to do an all-night reading because I had a lot to cover. I remember that around 2am a reading room ‘colleague’ asked me how I had managed to read for long without dozing off.She had no idea that I was on caffeine that night and I only smiled and told her that I was ‘on’ something.

During the week,I had an August visitor in my room; K-cent, the students’ union presidential aspirant. After his semi-coercing speech on why I should vote for him,he categorically made me know that if I vote for him in the coming election, he would leave no stone unturned during his tenure and that he could go as far as losing his studentship for the aluta cause(sounds strange to me o).I quickly asked him why on earth he bothered to come to this citadel of learning in the first place if he was that willing to lose his studentship for the S.U.’s aluta struggle  and he let me know that he already had a B.Sc. from OAU (mstchew!.. so the Faculty of Law here is a for-fun faculty ehn). Anyway, I had fun listening to him except that the number of mosquitoes that got into my room during the talk-talk were numerous.

Haa…lest I forget, Jumia came to the hall during the week and despite how attractive their program sounded, I was surprisingly taken by a movie at the porters’ lodge (I’ve never been a fan of Nigerian movies). The fact that I didn’t know they would be coming also hindered me from moving my legs from the uncomfortable cushion placed a few meters from the flat screen television there.

Hmm..so I’m sitting with crossed arms and waiting for a new week to begin. With my earphones plugged deep into my ears to block out the droning of various Students’ union aspirants and a fan that blows out the horrible smell emanating from my backyard,I stare hard at this big textbook and hope that a wonderful future awaits me.

                                                                                   Your ever pregnant pen,

                                                                                    Bohree…
