UI’SU Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Management Over Erratic Power Supply

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the university management, demanding the restoration of stable electricity supply across campus following weeks of erratic power and rationing.

In an urgent notice dated April 26, 2026, and signed by the Union President, Temidayo S. Adeboye, and General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, the Union expressed growing frustration over the persistent power situation, noting that students have continued to bear the brunt of inconsistent electricity despite ongoing engagements with university authorities.

“Following our recent consultations and deliberations with the University Management regarding the erratic power supply and electricity rationing, we must express the growing frustrations of the student body,” the statement read.

The Union disclosed that dialogue had been pursued as the initial approach to resolving the issue but stressed that the time for discussions without visible outcomes had passed. It noted that while engagements with management had taken place, students are yet to experience meaningful improvements in electricity supply across halls of residence and academic areas.

“The welfare of over 30,000 Uites is non-negotiable,” the Union stated, reinforcing the scale of those affected by the ongoing situation.

While the notice stops short of outlining specific actions should the ultimatum not be met, its tone signals a shift from consultation to a more assertive stance, suggesting that further steps may follow if there is no prompt response from the university authorities.

The issue of electricity supply has remained a recurring concern within the University of Ibadan community, with students frequently reporting prolonged outages and irregular power distribution in hostels and lecture areas.
