Seyi Ezekiel comes out with a statement on TikTok content behind the now viral Deboye video

In light of a recent video which has circulated in the students’ community showing the SU president dancing for a TikTok content in what looks to be the President’s office, the second party to the video, Mr Seyi Ezekiel has come out with a statement in a bid to clarify some things about the video.

It is worth noting that the aforementioned video has been the subject of debate on various UI student platforms regarding the appropriateness of the SU president appearing in such a video. Additionally, it has also motivated comments on the president’s actions, particularly his decision to participate in a content video by dancing, while there was a barrage of problems affecting the students.

Mr Seyi Ezekiel, who is a member of the SU publicity team and a one-time aspirant for the position of SU PRO reached out to the UCJ with the following statement:

Following a publication made by UCJ on Sunday, 26th of April 2026, attached in the link below.

I’d like to clarify that

  • I.) The President wasn’t comfortably in his office recording dance videos for TikTok. He is neither a TikToker nor does he post on TikTok. The video seen trending was recorded by me, vibing to music, in which he featured very briefly.
  • II.) He wasn’t aware before I posted the clip merged with another video on Friday, 24th of April, 2026. I just nonchalantly posted it while clearing my drafts.
  • III.) The video wasn’t recorded at the time of the height of the electricity crisis – it had already been recorded very early in April.
  • IV.) I was not aware that there was a serious issue going on across campus, as I do not stay on campus and I have not been around recently due to events I am managing in other states in the country.
  • V.) The Union President remains focused on and committed to the welfare of students, and is working diligently to manage the ongoing crises on campus. Again, he is neither a TikToker nor a content creator.

Also attached are certain images which he claims support his clarification as to the role of the president’s involvement in said video.

Despite the statement from Seyi Ezekiel, questions will still linger and as this will only serve as another lacework in the convoluted tapestry spinning from this debacle and other recent statements and words of the ‘Ever Dilligent’ SU president.
