Idia and Zik Clash: A Monstrous Disaster

A peril to Idiates, an ugly encounter to Zikites
Unity is a state of being one undivided entity. Conflict is simply a clash or disagreement, often violent, between two opposing groups or individuals. A battle line has been drawn, and enmity has come to stay but peace will be restored in due time. An inevitable hatred has coated the unity once shared between Queen Idia Hall girls and Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall boys. The consequences are envy, fights, insults, assaults, molestations and destructions.
On Saturday, 7th November, 2015, Queen Idia Hall held their Charity Visitation and Dinner. The Charity event was peaceful and successful, however, the Dinner was a disarray, an infliction of violent injury on Idiates by Zikites and a downpour pour of fluids to the male students. Yesterday’s memory is an unforgettable one in the hearts of Idiates, a day of too many stories and rumours.
There are so many motives for such commotion and violence. In recent time, it has been noticed that females of the University of Ibadan have always been tolerating Zik and Indy Hall aro-ing and harassment. Some groups of Zikites and Katangites choose to make gestures at the ladies, chase them, slap and touch their body parts. They will fondly support this as being “males.” On the other hand, the females of Queen Idia Hall have said “No to Aro-ing” since it has become cruel and embarrassing instead of being amusing and entertaining as used to be. Another source stated that the main reason for the chaos is because females of Queen Idia Hall merged with males of Mellanby Hall for this year’s Hall Week.
During the duo rally on Sunday, 1st November, some members of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall booed, insulted and chased them out of their hall. Most Idiates that went for the rally were angry that they were mistreated during the rally and some left angrily.
“They called Idiates OLOSO meaning prostitutes and all sorts of names,” said one of the girls.
Their brothers in Indy Hall, known as Katangites, heightened the problem by pouring grubby, messy and stinging water, and spitting saliva on Idiates when they entered their own hall.
Traditionally, Halls of Residence shower water, urine and other substances during carnivals as a way of entertainment or payback. Last year, the carnival fight was between Tedder Hall and Awo Hall, it was a baptism of water and the two parties involved reacted and later reconciled. This display has shown to be barbaric, immoral and unwise of undergraduate students who should be worthy in character and sound judgement.
A quest for revenge!
A source affirmed that beforehand they were warned not to enter Queen Idia Hall for their rally but they insisted. It was also learnt that the hall chairperson informed Idiates to welcome them. Out of annoyance, Idia girls misbehaved by pouring water on Zikites during the rally. Rumours had it that concentrated or stored urine was also poured on Zik Hall secretary and others.
In self-defense and retaliation, Zik boys threw sachets of pure water, stones and gravels at girls. They smashed and wasted roughly eleven bags of pure water kept for a mini market in the hall. They destroyed a lot of things and injured so many girls. Also, at the trade fair center, some of them stole goods for sale and forcefully came to fight Idia girls at the quadrangle before another Zikite interfered. It was an unexpected ugly tale. Both parties have faulted but justice and peace must triumph.
The Dinner Experience!
Have you witnessed an ambush? The dinner surprise attack was a terrific, destructive and dehumanizing one. An Idiate who witnessed the violence won’t forget in a hurry and only a dead cell will fail to recall.
The dinner was to hold at the field of Abdulsalam Abubakar Hall, also known as the New Postgraduate Hall, opposite Queen Idia Hall. Idia girls were gorgeously dressed and waited patiently for the ever anticipated dinner to kick start. At about 8:30pm, Zikites invaded the venue, turned off the generator and the light went off. They started breaking bottles, plates and scattering the exquisitely decorated tent. Some chased the girls whom started screaming, crying and lamenting for help. They threw bottles at the girls who were running for safety and pursued them. Most of the Idiates at the venue jumped fence while others hurriedly ran to the postgraduate hall for security. Though, the Master’s students pursued Zikites and protected us but the number of Zikites were overwhelming and uncontrollable.
Queen Idia Hall Social Director was painted, harassed and humiliated. One of the hall executives said they poured paint on our Assistant Hall Warden during the crisis. A lot of girls got injured while some were beaten up during the attack. However, Zikites have refused to admit this act. According to some media posts, they denied beating the girls with weapons. Believably, one of the hooligans used an electric fan on a girl’s head. In this context, what is the electric fan?
The University Security Officers, popularly called Abefele didn’t do much to curtail the crowd because Zikites came out en masse, maybe accompanied by the Katangites. Eventually, a tear gas was released by an unidentified person which made some of the girls unconscious. The Master of Ceremony (MC), Miss Esther slumped in the stampede and was rushed to the University College Hospital for treatment. More so, five other idiates fainted and they were taken to Jaja clinic. It was learnt that they are responding to treatment.
Eye witnesses saw some Zikites drinking and eating food, and they also wasted some food during the chaos. The food that was meant to feed over a thousand girls were ravaged and devoured. Also, a pack of condom, pieces of bottles and plates were littered at the dinner venue. Following this, a lady’s clothe was torn and we sincerely hope nobody was raped because there was no security at the dark tent. At that instant, there was calamity and no one would have known if any illicit act actually took place there.
Till midnight, the so-called Zikites stayed in front of our hall and the girls in postgraduate halls were accompanied by Master’s students and security men to Idia hall. Sincere appreciation goes to the postgraduate students who intervened and controlled the situation.
A dinner worth over one million was destroyed within minutes and the efforts of the hall management, executives and members of the dinner committee were put to waste.
The fact it was alleged that urine was poured by Idiates should not warrant terminating the dinner by Zikites, thus, wasting resources and causing disaster.
My question; why would a well-bred woman bathe another individual with urine, is it right? Is revenge the best way of fighting or causing mayhem? Is this the way forward Idiates and Zikites? What is the role of security personnel in cases like this? How protected are the ladies? Is there a hierarchy in the level of misconduct? How is the school management going to handle this menace?
Stop violence and discrimination! Peace and not disaster!! Let justice prevail and the sick be healed!!!
