The Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS) made the October 1st and 2nd of the year 2015 a memorable day by going on a very wonderful excursion to the State of Osun. The students who went for the excursion were mainly freshmen and AFAS Executives. They took off at about 9:40am and their first stop was at the Ooni’s Palace, Ife, popularly referred to as Ile Oodua, around 11:17am. There the students were privileged to move into the Palace and were shown some admirable sites in the palace like the four courts, (one of which is the Emese’s court were cases like fighting on the street were settled, quarrels between husband and wife and so on). Other places of interest were the sites of the Swearing Stone, Moremi’s Statue and the Oduduwa’s Statue. The students then moved back to the bus and headed to where the Oranmiyan’s staff is located. During their journey to the place, the ladies were frightened as they thought that those who are not virgins would not be privileged to go into the place, everyone was however allowed in. Anyone could touch the staff as long as some stipends were offered.
The students then left for the Osun Groove at about 2:36pm. There, the students were shown the god of Fertility, Sopona, the Osun River, the Arugba’s Arena, god of Potency, Sango, the First Market Place, the Ancient Bridge since the 1840s and so much more. Around 6:12pm, the journeys for the day ended at the Industrial Works where the students would pass their nights. The students were served fufu alongside vegetable with meat which actually did not fill their yearning stomachs before the gyration for the night started. During the gyration, contests like singing and dancing took place between some departments, adding to the gyration fun. There was also Camp fire which further extended the fun till 4:30am.
