A DIFFERENT EXCURSION…
Excursions are outings a targeted set of persons go, in order to achieve a purpose, most times learning. Often times, tales of excursions are endless for the travellers. And the lingering memories are what you relish for as long as your relationship with the organisers of the event.
Most associations in Faculties and Departments in the University of Ibadan have taken these outings as unshakeable and vital in the programmes lined in stock for their colleagues. In some cases, it is as though there is a rivalry ensuing from the glamour in the destinations involved. Faculty against Faculty, Department against Department. However, students still ensure they maximise the monies given to their executives. They grasp all the fun in the air, connect/network with fellow travellers and visited places, extract all information from the sojourn and eat as much as the belly can accommodate.
Unlike the several excursions we have experienced in the past, where ‘only’ Techites pay about #3000 to visit ‘one’ place, the Adedokun Oluyinka led administration decided to put in a unique touch to this year’s journey. That classy touch students of the faculty had anticipated for sessions. This year’s adventure will be a collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, the Faculty of the Social Sciences and the Faculty of Public Health; involvement of three other Faculties in the University of Ibadan and a ticket goes for a whopping #7500 for 3days.
Considering the Faculties involved and the number of days to be spent, one would be swift to slashing one’s allowance for the excursion with the large number of targeted persons from differing ideologies. At least, we can have an excursion where the gender imbalance will be properly check mated, we can have an excursion we won’t have to visit the same place as previous years, we can have an outing we should tag as ‘worth the while.
Therefore, Adok and his cabinet must understand that the benefit of scepticism has been given him. So far, eyebrows have remained in its state as regards the fees and the planning except the usually belated preparations towards it. TECHITES seem to receive the sojourn with a warm embrace. Afterall, it is the sort of fun we have clamoured for. However, our reception of this innovative move is merged with high expectations. Our hopes must not be dashed out of irresponsibility. We cannot afford to be flooded with excuses for failure. Not again!
Dear Adok, Get us a beautiful experience!
