The University of Ibadan Students Union (UISU) today (Monday) deliberated on issues surrounding virtual classes and fees increment outlined by the university’s management.
Sharing his thoughts, Akeju Olusegun, the UISU President, said: “Virtual classes is necessary for hitch free academic activities of students. We can’t resume physically and the school will be suspended indefinitely when a case of Covid-19 is confirmed, this is synonymous to going back to staying home.”
He then added that the Union is working on getting subsidised data plan for the students.
“However, the executives are working on getting subsidized data plan for students. We put a call through to a telecommunication company (MTN) today and their representative promised to get back to us. Once the plan is successful, students will be asked to send their numbers which will be recorded in subsidised list,” he said.
Akeju also decried the fees increment. He averred that “the fact that school fees has been increased is quite shocking, there is 4900naira increment on school fees” Akeju stated. Sport levy, Technology levy, and medical levy have been increased from 1200-2000, 6500-10000 and 1000-2000 respectively.”
At of time of writing this report, students are on their way to Tekena and Tamuno building to express their displeasure to the Acting VC.
