UCJUI PRO, One Other UI Student Win Diana Award


 
Covenant Odedele, a second-year medical student of the University of Ibadan and Public Relations Officer of the Union of Campus Journalists, has been honoured with The Diana Award.
 
Covenant who was recognized alongside 188 other young visionaries and leaders from 31 countries across the world is the youngest Nigerian receiving the 2023 award.

Abdulhammed Babafunde, a fifth-year medical student of the College of Medicine, UI was also named a recipient of the award for his efforts to reduce maternal and childhood mortality.


 Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Award is given out by the charity of the same name and has the support of both her sons, HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Sussex for young persons going above and beyond everyday life to create and sustain positive change.

Covenant won the award, regarded as the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social action or humanitarian efforts, for his work with the social enterprise he founded, Students on LinkedIn.

Speaking with UCJUI after the announcement, Covenant described it as a surreal moment for him.

“It feels good to be recognized for good work; putting Nigeria on the global stage. And if there is anything to be proud of, it’s the fact that my leadership has inspired my peers to take responsibility for societal challenges in their campus communities,” he said.

“I’m also glad that one of my visions for campus communities in Nigeria got a global recognition. All glory to God!”
