UI’SU Press Night ’26: Sports Director Aspirants Promise Better Inclusion for Women

Aspirants for the position of Sports Director of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union have outlined plans to improve women’s inclusion in sports, while acknowledging concerns about the condition of sporting equipment.

The Golden Era aspirant, popularly known as Baaloo, described the equipment as being in poor condition but still manageable. He also proposed collaborating with sporting bodies to improve women’s inclusion.

Oladipupo Al-Ameen said the equipment was in poor condition, noting that the handball court was the only facility in good condition. He proposed a one-week programme for female students to try sports of their choice and a weekly Her Sport Weekly Spotlight to highlight women’s participation.

Gbolahan of the Peak Agenda acknowledged that the university’s sporting equipment might not meet the required standards, specifically noting that the scoreboard was faulty. He said he would work with the Sports Council to address the issue and added that youth inclusion was possible with the right coaches and personnel.

This report is part of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI)’s Election Watchroom Initiative, which provides coverage of candidates and the electoral process of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU).
