FULL SCM HOLDS CONVERGE 2014:

Student Christian Movement, University of Ibadan on Tuesday, 21st of October, 2014 conducted a conference which was themed “Converge 2014”. The Conference which comprised of students from different academic fields of study was titled “When the Righteous rule, whither Nigeria?” The guest speaker of the conference was former Federal Minister of Education and Solid Minerals, co-founder of Transparency international and Vice President of World Bank’s Africa division, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili, in which she enlightened the participants on the need for the Righteous to hold leadership positions in the country and the benefits of such happening. She also discussed about the need fordevelopment and fight against corruption in every sector of the country through God fearing people that have good character, are competent and have the capacity for change.

AMES ORGANIZES FILM SHOW:

A 2014 block buster FrenchCanadian movie and a tribute to late actor Paul Walker titled “Bricks Mansion”, was publicly seen at the Design Studio, ETF building, department of Mechanical Engineering, on Wednesday, 22nd of October, 2014, courtesy the Association of Mechanical Engineering students. The action which was about a young cop travelling through movie a dangerous suburb in order to bring down a crime gang troubling the city was captivating and suspense filled, as students watched carefully and patiently with a pack of sugar-coated popcorn and a cup of sweet juice.

UCJ HOLDS FAMOUS FIVE AWARDS

An annual event of the Union of Campus Journalists, the Famous Five awards was held at the First Bank building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan on Thursday, 23rd of October, 2014. This year’s event which was themed “Building a Strong Nigeriathrough Youth Motivation” was aimed at celebrating heroes in different spheres of life. According to the president of the Union of Campus Journalists, Mr Kayode Folayemi, the program was aimed at honouring people that have decided to make themselves different from others, people that are excellent and believe that service to humanity is the best work of life. The Awardees were: Mr Pat Nebo, an Art designer and winner of the African’s best Art Director at AMAA, 2012, Mr Jimi Tewe, Motivational speaker, Career catalyst and Chief Executive Officer of Inspiro consultant, Mrs Florence Ajumobi, First Lady of Oyo state, Mr P.S. Olajide, Media practitioner, Deputy Managing Director, National Mirror Newspaper and Professor C.O.O. Kolawole, an Educationist, the 24th dean of the Faculty of Education and former hall Warden of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall. However, only Professor C.O.O. Kolawole was available as the others sent various representatives. A highly intellectual program; impactful and relevant in building the Nigeria of our dreams.

BUHARI, TAMBUWAL, OTHERS STORM UI FOR ALUMNI LECTURE:

The grounds of University of Ibadan and its environs shook, the walls of Trenchard hall trembled as some of the heavyweights of the Nigerian political scene stormed University of Ibadan for the annual University of Ibadan Alumni Association lecture on Friday, 24th of October, 2014. The lecturer of the discourse is a notable Alumnus of the University of Ibadan, a graduate of the department of Economics in the year 1963, Chief John E.K. Odigie-Oyegun, he is currently the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the major opposition party in Nigeria, his selection as the lecturer of the discourse which is titled, ”Nigeria, A trajectory of Dashed Expectation: Looking Into the Future with Hope” is perceived as the reason for the large influx of politicians in the event. Current Speaker of the National Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, former Head of State, General Muhammadu BuhariGovernor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Governor of Rivers State, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni, Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Senator Osita Osinalo, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, former Osun State Governor, Chief Isiaka Adeleke, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Isaac Adewole and a host of others were present in the gathering. More than fifty million Naira was raised for the Alumni Association in order to build a new Post graduate hall.

SIGMA CLUB HOLDS HAVANA CLASSIC

Award winning evergreen musician, Grammy nominee, a legend, a mainstay in the Nigerian Music Industry, a wonderful gem a lot of musicians have emulated and the young ones are adoring, Chief Sunny Ade thrilled guests at the Sigma Havana Classic which was organized by Sigma club, University of Ibadan at Pope John Paul 2 building on the 24th of October, 2014. The event showcased a classic night of beautiful folklore and an amazing display of traditional old time favourite music. The program was graced by the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, members of Oyo State Executive Council and various Honourables. Chief Sunny Ade was also given an award by Sigma Club and he showed his appreciation affectionately.

R2K 14 KICKS OFF IN GRAND STYLE

The Redeemed Christian Fellowship, University of Ibadan, undergraduate chapter started her annual convention otherwise known as R2K for the year 2014 and was tagged “A New Name”, the theme for the tenure. The Opening Ceremony as it is the norm comprised of an all-conquering Match past, a beautiful display of choreography, an epic traditional dance routine, poetryedifying rap, melodious songs and the sermon from the throne of grace. It is a memorable event and signifies the beginning of the annual weeklong program.
