The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI), will hold a three-in-one ceremony at the Large Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The event will feature the third edition of the annual Global Campus Journalism Summit (GCJS), the induction of new members into the Union, and the launch of this year’s CAMPULSE Magazine.
The third edition of the Global Campus Journalism Summit, GCJS 3.0, is themed “From Campus to National Politics: The Role of Campus Journalists in Civic Engagement, Democratic Participation, and National Building.” The summit will feature a keynote address and a panel session focused on the role of campus journalists in shaping civic consciousness and democratic participation.
Alongside this, the event will also witness the induction of the 38th set of UCJ members into the Union.
The induction ceremony, themed “Into the Fourth Estate: Duties, Discipline and Dedication,” will feature Mr Ibrahim Oredola, UCJ’s 29th President, as the keynote speaker.
Following the keynote address, a panel session titled “Beyond the Byline: Upholding Duty, Discipline and Dedication in Campus Journalism” will examine the responsibilities and professional values expected of campus journalists.
Among the guests who will serve as panellists across the events are Mr Oluwatosin Ologun, Ms Faith Alofe, Mr Abdulkabeer Tijani, and Ms Olayide Soaga.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Gbenga Omotoso, alongside representatives of campus journalism associations from across Nigeria, is also expected to attend the event as a special guest.
Also, as part of the ceremony, UCJ’UI will unveil and launch the latest edition of its annual magazine CAMPULSE. This year’s edition is themed “Thinking Minds: Advancing Social Progress in a Society of Failing Leadership and Followership.”
The magazine will feature an interview with Dr Bayo Ajala, the inaugural President of UCJ, alongside critical and creative pieces by students of the University of Ibadan and contributors from other universities across Nigeria.
The ceremony will also see the announcement of winners of the Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition, while the Best Inductee Award will be presented to the outstanding member of the new set.
With its combination of discussions on journalism, democracy, civic engagement, leadership and social progress, the three-in-one ceremony promises a day of intellectual engagement for students, journalists, academics, and other members of the university community.
