The Literary & Debating Society (TLDS), University of Ibadan, has announced the inter-faculty and inter-hall draws as well as the theme for the 8th edition of Jaw War.
The edition, which is scheduled to start by March 20, 2023, and end by April 21, 2023, is themed: ‘disruptive conversations – The African state in perspective.’
This was made known by the president of the society, Williams Neyen in a Press Conference that was held at the university’s African Regional Center on Thursday.
“This theme emphasizes the need to analyze and critically examine the state and Relevance of Africa and Nigeria, the giant of Africa, in particular. We would reflect on the current state of the continent by debating over 30 topics cutting across various sectors and proffering solid solutions that would continue to shape the nation as globally relevant,” the club’s President said.
The seeding of draws was anchored by the Editor-in-Chief for the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), Oluwatobi Odeyinka.
For the first round of the inter-hall category, the following is the draw: Queen Idia VS Great Independence; Alexander Brown VS Ransom Kuti; Nnamdi Azikwe VS Queen Elizabeth; Lord Tedder VS Obafemi Awolowo; Sultan Bello VS Kenneth Mellanby.
For the preliminary Faculty category, the draw is as follows: Agriculture VS Education; Technology VS Basic Medical Sciences; Clinical Sciences VS Dentistry; Science VS Arts; Vet Medicine VS Environment Design & Management; Economics VS Public Health; Pharmacy VS Renewable & Natural Resources; Law VS Social Sciences.
