Newly admitted students of the Theatre Arts departments, University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, March 28 were initiated into the world of theatre in a ceremony themed “Unbound”.  The current set was merged with the previous set that was unable to have their initiation ceremony as a result of the Pandemic.

The initiates underwent rigorous rehearsals and produced a play. They were officially initiated by two guest theatre artists, after reciting an oath and prayers. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, as well as parents and other important guests was present at the initiation ceremony.

The newly initiated theater artists addressed some ills in Nigeria in their stage plays, including income inequality, corruption, hunger, insecurity, and the covid 19 Pandemic.

Someone in the audience, who identified himself as Tayo showered encomium on the initiated students for their performances. “We totally enjoyed the performance. I’m not a UI student, but this performance is better than anything my school can perform,” Tayo said.
